Therapies

Physiotherapy serves people who want to become healthier and more physically active, while recognising that doing exercises with the proper technique is fundamental for good long-term health. At Medicofit we are specialists in active injury rehabilitation. Our mission is to restore patients’ full motor function through physiotherapy.

How are the therapies carried out at Medicofit?

A major problem with physiotherapy in the public health context is the prolonged waiting time and passive approach to rehabilitation, resulting in delayed development of function and often leaving the patient with permanent limitations and sequelae.

In the past, physiotherapy functioned mainly on the principle of generic protocols prescribed for each type of injury and pain condition, omitting the most important ones, namely the individual characteristics of the patient’s body type and injury. Physiotherapy is effective in treating injuries when it designs protocols tailored individually to each patient.

When planning treatment protocols, the patient should be the primary focus. Importantly, the physiotherapist should consider the mechanism of injury, the patient’s level of physical fitness, the specifics of the surgical or non-operative treatment already performed, and the patient’s psychophysical limitations.

Modern day physiotherapy is individually tailored to the patient with each treatment and focuses on early active rehabilitation by performing exercises that improve the patient’s musculoskeletal function and overall physical fitness.

The type and extent of therapy is determined individually for each patient based on the following factors:

  • Type of rehabilitation (pre-operative, post-operative, non-operative),
  • Type of injury (contact, non-contact traumatic injury or chronic condition),
  • Cause of injury,
  • Movement limitations present,
  • Specificity of pain symptomatology,
  • Specificity of swelling,
  • Level of physical fitness of the patient,
  • Presence of sutures, screws, plates, or other surgical material,
  • Muscle imbalances presence,
  • Joint mobility imbalances presence,
  • Presence of imbalances in local muscular endurance,
  • Patient’s goals,
  • Patient’s age,
  • Psychological profile of the patient,
  • Contraindications to specific therapeutic technique’s presence,
  • Associated systemic diseases.
